How to flush the cache?

When you deploy an SEO recommendation, you may not see your change directly on your page. Why? It could be that your page is cached, i.e. a version of your page is stored on a server so that it can be accessed more quickly by your users. This is a very good practice for a fast site.

Why flush the cache?

To test and validate your recommendation, you have two options:

  1. Test your page by deactivating the cache using our Fasterize plugin. We explain how here.
  2. Empty the cache from the Fasterize console, i.e. rebuild the page from scratch.

You may read several terms that mean the same thing: empty / purge / flush the cache. When we use one of these terms, we're indicating that we're "rebuilding" a new version of the page for storage on a server.

How do I clear/flush the cache?

There are two possible ways to clear / flush / purge the cache.

From an application

  1. You configure an SEO recommendation from within an application.
  2. You validate an SEO recommendation.
  3. A "Purge cache" pop-up opens.

From the console menu

  1. Click on the "Quick Action" button in the top right-hand corner of the console.
  2. Click on the "Flush cache" button.
  3. A "Purge cache" pop-up opens.

Joint actions

  1. From this pop-up, you can perform two actions: post a message to follow the recommendations deployed and flush the cache.
  2. We encourage you to leave a message when you deploy a recommendation. This will enable you to find it in the activity stream, so you can review the deployment of your SEO recommendations and make correlations with your analytics tools. Example: Add a rule to block crawling of admin pages in robots.txt.
  3. There are several options for flushing the cache. Flushing the cache can have an impact on web performance, and should be used with full knowledge of the facts and in a targeted manner. Don't forget that you can test your recommendations without activating the cache using our Fasterize plugin.
    • None. This option is checked by default. We recommend that you leave this option unchecked. Your SEO recommendations will be deployed, but will be visible after the configured cache time has expired.
    • Purge HTML files. This option flushes the cache of all your HTML files. Only use this option knowingly, as it will impact your site's performance.
    • Purge files by URL. This option allows you to flush the cache on one or more URLs to be entered in the field. We recommend this option for flushing the cache on a URL to test your recommendation.
    • Purge asset directories. This option flushes an entire directory. Use this option only with full knowledge of the facts, as it will impact your site's performance.
